PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice late to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
